I was incarcerated at the age of 17 in April of 2013. My case was directly filed into the adult courts. In 2017, I had a chance to go back to the juvenile court, but it was only to state that I was an unfit candidate to be rehabilitated as a juvenile. That lasted a year…it is now November of 2019. I am still awaiting trial.

It’s a big question mark as to why it’s taking so long. Maybe a weak case, but then again, they refuse to plea bargain. Maybe the state appointed attorney, who hasn’t come to visit me once nor investigator are collecting a healthy monthly check, so the case is prolonged? I have no idea. I’m really unsure, but it hurts to see the victim’s family at court irritated and stressed out believing it is all my fault that this case is not being resolved. To some extent, I do deserve punishment, but definitely not two 25 year to life sentences. I mean science even shows evidence that the mind isn’t fully developed until mid-20’s so how can one look past this cry for help?

Although it has been tough, it has been an unusual growing process bringing me to flourish with character, ambition, and a hunger to be an asset to humanity. I only hope to be of use for the betterment of anyone I’ve caused harm to or anyone who  experiences pain from similar situations. I do my best to be a good person, but it can get hard when you don’t have a guide. Reading, writing, and art have become my band-aids (Twitter: @adrianberumen14; Instagram: @adriangreatstuff). I hope to one day transform the world with my art. I desire to have kids someday so that I may influence their mentalities to be great people for this world. I never had a consistent source of positive influence, and I would never want my children to be like that growing up.   When I get released, sooner or later, I do plan to buy land and build my own house with a vineyard and farm animals.

I also ache to create opportunity for anyone who is willing to seize it. I want to only add value to those who wish to use me for good and growth to unlock their potential as well as mine. I hope to develop long lasting relationships as well as strong partnerships to share and enjoy life’s hardships and goodness.
